U7 Program - players 5 and 6 years old (2020 & 2021 Birth Years)

Practice Times will be posted as they are available. Please check the website regularly as times may be updated up to 24 hours prior.

• Practices will be as per the Initiation Program and requires a large amount of volunteers
  • Interested parties for volunteers can go to Be a Coach | BC Hockey
  • Volunteers must register online through their Spordle Account

• Drop-in skills sessions for all registered U7 players will be on Tuesdays 3:45-4:45pm on the EAST arena, starting Tuesday, November 10th, 2026. These are optional practices that focus specifically on skills. These practices are open to all U7 players, however, they are for the players that are wanting to improve and work hard; adherence to rules and expectations is mandatory and no poor behaviour will be tolerated.

Games and Tournaments

• All games will be cross ice

• We will not be starting any games until December/January so please be patient. As a part of the initiation program, we need to ensure everyone is comfortable on their skates and understand the structure before starting games. Typically we will do practices on Saturday’s and games on Sunday’s. There may be exceptions to this due to scheduling or limitations on ice times.

•  Each team is allowed to participate in 2 tournaments. Tournaments are not a part of your hockey fee. Once the team decides on a tournament to take part in, the manager (or if you have a sponsor) will find out who can attend the tournament and collect your portion to pay the tournament fees.

Housekeeping

• Please label your child's helmet and water bottle with their name, this helps the coaches and bench staff as well as your child to have a better experience on the ice at the start of the year. Also, just a reminder that parents are not permitted to be on the bench during ice times unless you've registered as bench staff and completed all the courses to be either an HCSP or a coach. If your child needs you, they will be brought to you, and if you'd like to be on the bench, please let your manager know you're going to be completing your HCSP courses to volunteer.

• Dressing rooms - Dressing rooms for each practice are posted on the screens in the lobby of the arena. Please ensure you are going in the correct dressing room. No phones or pictures in the dressing rooms. We follow the "Two Deep Method" which means if you are in the dressing room with a child who is not yours, there must be another parent in the dressing room as well or you need to leave and ask your child to meet you in the common area to continue helping them get ready. 

Picture day information will be sent out by your manager once available.

Gear

• Timbits jersey will be provided 

• FSJ Minor Hockey will have a donation table with free gear
  • located outside the Minor Hockey office which is in the Pomeroy Sports Centre
  • Questions about hockey gear - Ernie’s Sports and Canadian Tire can outfit new players

FSJ Minor Hockey follows the Cross-ice program developed by Hockey Canada.

There can be concerns from parents about how small-area games may impact their child’s hockey development, but parents should trust Hockey Canada and its research. Putting young players into a competitive environment too early will compromise their development; they need to be placed into competitive situations that suit their age-specific abilities. This is why Hockey Canada’s Long-Term Player Development Model is so important.

Dividing the playing surface is a decision that has been made in consultation with experts in athlete development. It is important to understand the benefits of cross-ice hockey and why Hockey Canada has a national policy ensuring all Timbits U7 hockey is played in smaller, modified spaces.
